How to Connect Proxy to Safari

A proxy server functions as a go-between between the user’s computer and the Internet, allowing the administrator to control and filter the content that is allowed to pass. To configure proxies for your small business, either set up a Proxy Auto-Configuration server or distribute a PAC file to your staff, both of which automatically configure proxy server data on workstations. Alternatively, you can provide proxy server data to your staff and instruct them to configure the proxies manually. Here’s how to connect proxy to Safari:

Configure a Proxy Server

1. Launch Safari, select “Safari” from the menu bar, and then “Preferences.”

2. At the top of the Preferences box, click the “Advanced” tab.

3. Next to the “Proxies” entry, click the “Change Settings” button.

4. In the “Select a proxy server to configure” box, click the “Automatic Proxy Configuration” option.

5. In the URL input box, type the URL of the PAC server. Alternatively, if you were provided with a PAC file, click the “Choose File” option, navigate to the PAC file, and click “Open.”

6. In the window’s lower right corner, click the “Apply Now” button.

Manual Configuration

1. Open Safari, click the “Safari” menu, and then choose “Preferences.”

2. At the top of the window, click the “Advanced” tab.

3. Next to the “Proxies” entry, click the “Change Settings” button.

4. In the left pane, select the type of proxy server you wish to configure.

5. In the boxes given, enter the proxy server’s URL. If your proxy server requires authentication, choose the “Proxy server requires password” check box and input the necessary credentials in the provided fields.

6. Repeat Steps 4–5 for each proxy server that requires configuration.

7. In the window’s lower right corner, click the “Apply Now” button.
